Greater Good Charities

Salesforce and HubSpot Marketing Hub Implementation for a Global Nonprofit

Greater Good Charities replaced disconnected systems with Salesforce and HubSpot for a clearer view of their donor journeys.

The Challenge

Greater Good Charities (GGC) has a noble, sweeping mission across four broad fronts: people, pets, conservation, and disasters.

Their nationwide focus on pets includes providing food, supplies, and shelter renovation, along with notable support for medical, transport, and training needs. Globally, they help prepare people and pets for impending natural disasters and provide on-the-ground assistance to those who are already survivors.

GGC also assists vulnerable populations with food, education, and survival basics across the globe, while using habitat protection and community education to safeguard endangered plant and wildlife species.

With so many programs, countries, and donor entry points, GGC needed their messaging to be relevant, timely, and targeted across their constituents. This was almost impossible as GGC’s systems didn’t talk to each other.

The main culprits were Raiser’s Edge, their constituent relationship management system (CRM), and Zaius, their marketing automation platform. There was no streamlined way for Zaius to use Raiser’s Edge donor data to trigger automated workflows to segmented audiences. Numerous other platforms were disconnected as well.

The result? GGC lacked a clear view of donor journeys and marketing campaign effectiveness, and couldn’t reach supporters effectively.

To overcome their technology gaps, Greater Good posed the following questions to CauseMic:

  • How can we provide relevant and timely content to our donors and other supporters based on their cause interest (people, pets, planet, or disasters)?
  • How can we better understand a donor’s journey, from their first interaction with GGC to when they make a donation?
  • How can we distinguish donors who come directly to GGC from those who come through fundraising partners like iHeartDogs?
  • How can we track data from all of our non-partner donation sources in one place?

Our Solutions

To integrate GGC’s systems and resolve their personalization concerns, CauseMic:

Implemented Salesforce and HubSpot Marketing Hub

  • We replaced Raiser’s Edge with Salesforce and Zaius with HubSpot Marketing Hub, integrating the two systems for seamless, two-way donor data sharing and management.

Built Donor Journey Reporting

  • Using HubSpot multitouch revenue attribution reporting, we gave GGC insight into the interactions a donor encounters before making a donation.
  • We developed cause-based scoring so GGC could see which cause areas each donor had given to and prioritize the areas of greatest interest to that donor.

Connected Giving Modalities

  • Our team built Salesforce integrations for previously unintegrated fundraising platforms including Classy, Give Lively, Harness, Fundraise Up, and Shopify.
  • We created a batch gift-entry tool and export/import templates for sources that couldn’t be integrated, including Facebook fundraising and GGC’s fundraising partners.

The Results

Clear, Segmented Donor Journeys

  • GGC can now understand each donor’s journey from initial contact through the interaction that ultimately prompted a donation.
  • Knowing each donor’s cause of choice enables GGC to segment audiences and communicate with more relevant content.

Real-Time Tracking & Follow-Up

  • Bringing data from multiple giving platforms into Salesforce provides insights into donor behavior, campaign effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Tracking fundraising partners lets GGC send context-appropriate messages, such as thanking donors for giving through a specific partner.
  • Real-time tracking of visitor and supporter actions allows GGC to execute timely, automated workflows for subsequent engagement.

We engaged with CauseMic to take a look at our use case and our needs and to identify the most appropriate tools that we should be using.

When moving over to HubSpot, we’ve seen organic traffic increase, we’ve seen bounce rates decrease, pages per session increase—so definitely, when it comes to growth statistics, we’ve seen in particular email engagement skyrocket.
