Partners In Health

HubSpot Marketing Hub Implementation for a Global Health Nonprofit

PIH replaced manual data imports with a connected HubSpot and Salesforce system for more timely, personalized outreach.

The Challenge

Based in Massachusetts, Partners In Health (PIH) is a social justice organization seeking lasting change to make healthcare available to each and every person.

To make that happen, PIH partners with leading medical and academic institutions, governments, foundations, corporations, donors, and other supporters. To secure and nurture vital support from this massive network, PIH's communications need to be timely and consistent.

When PIH came to CauseMic, their digital systems weren’t up to the task.

Their marketing automation platform, EveryAction, required manual imports from Raiser’s Edge, their constituent relationship management system (CRM). As a result, PIH couldn’t use crucial real-time data in their marketing efforts.

EveryAction also had limited workflow logic, along with restrictions on the number of custom fields and data points PIH could track. That made it difficult for PIH to understand what subscribers actually cared about, including which programs held the most interest.

To overcome their marketing gaps, we needed to answer three particular questions:

  • How can we use our data to better customize a subscriber’s online experience?
  • How can we track which of our programs and sites subscribers are interested in?
  • How can we determine the success of our text-messaging (SMS) campaigns?

Our Solutions

Working alongside the Salesforce Professional Services team that installed Salesforce, we implemented HubSpot Marketing Hub to address PIH’s needs.

Subscriber Segmentation and Personalization

  • We used “smart content” to automatically customize PIH’s landing pages based on the visitor’s relationship with PIH (e.g., visitor, advocate, one-time donor, recurring donor, superfan).
  • Our team configured automation to tag new subscribers with codes based on the PIH program or site that brought them in, making it easier to send relevant welcome messages from the start.

Engagement Tracking and Reporting

  • We built HubSpot reporting to show the PIH team which SMS campaigns were driving donations and which might be causing subscribers to opt out.
  • We created properties to score subscribers based on their engagement with PIH programs and sites, including page views, email interactions, forms submitted, and donations made.

Email Engagement and Health

  • We configured custom workflows to track subscriber activity levels from very active to not active. With a clearer view of subscriber engagement, PIH could better manage their email health and focus on their most engaged audiences.

The Results

More Relevant, Timely Marketing

  • Real-time donation and other CRM data is now used in PIH marketing efforts, enabling automation, personalization, and timely communications.
  • PIH now has the ability to target communications for each program or site and market to the subscribers most likely to engage with it.
  • PIH can now market to the most engaged audience segments, reaching more active inboxes and greatly enhancing their email sender reputation and health.

Less Manual Work

  • With no manual importing or exporting of data, the PIH team has more time to focus on campaign strategy and tactical execution.

Thank you, Kelsey and Katya, for your kind words and your steady partnership. The transition to HubSpot has been a bright point in a pretty intense year, and we have the easy collaboration with you to thank for that.
